Wedding Food Trends For 2012

When you’re planning your Arizona wedding you will want to consider the time of year you’re hosting it and plan your wedding menu accordingly. If you focus on a seasonal menu you will have access to fresh ingredients that might be unavailable at other times of the year, this includes locally grown fruits and vegetables. If you work with your Arizona caterer, you can plan a few meals around signature seasonal items to give your guests a taste of the season.

Work with your caterer to plan a signature menu for your wedding reception that matches the season and you – as the newly married couple’s – taste and style. Consider using seasonal foods in their most natural form, for example, serve a strawberry and walnut salad if you’re planning a wedding during the season when strawberries are in bloom. Substitute apples or other seasonal fruits or vegetables. Work with your caterer to uncover the fruits and vegetables that will be in season and grown locally at the time of your wedding.

If you’re planning an autumn wedding serve your food in unusual, seasonal ways. Consider, for example, having your soup course served in a miniature pumpkin. Have your meals plated with seasonal garnishes. Make certain your drinks match the season as well. Serve hot buttered brandy for a cool weather meal, consider serving your guests fresh squeezed lemonade in crystal bowls with candied lemons floating on the surface with a few sprigs of mint for a summer wedding.

To truly personalize your wedding menu, work with your caterer to incorporate either a family favorite or a menu item reminiscent of your culture and heritage. Have the caterer place a recipe card next to the dish along with a reason why this menu item is being served. The recipe and the story behind it are a great way to pass along a family tradition to your guests.

If you simply can’t come to a consensus on an overall menu, consider serving a tasting menu on which guests are treated to hors d'oeuvre-type meal. Bite size desserts are becoming all the rage as are bite-sized foods. While you will not want to serve foods that your guests will need to pick up that are messy – think mini barbecue ribs – you can certainly serve bacon-wrapped scallops with tiny skewers; this way your guests can sample away while keeping their fingers clean. Just as your wedding represents your personal style, so too, should your reception menu.
